A Global Collaboration Between Ties That Make A Difference & Our Children Read

Around the world, millions of children grow up without ever seeing themselves in the books they read. They flip through pages filled with characters, places, and stories — but none that reflect their own faces, cultures, or communities.

The Literacy With Love Campaign exists to change that.

Through this powerful collaboration between Ties That Make A Difference, a 501(c)3 nonprofit, and Our Children Read, we are spreading culturally affirming children’s books that feature Black and Brown main characters — stories that inspire self-confidence, cultural pride, and a lifelong love of reading.

This is more than a book campaign. It’s a global movement of compassion, connection, and change.

Our Mission

To ensure that every child — regardless of income, race, or country — has access to books that affirm their identity and ignite their imagination. By combining the distribution power of Our Children Read with the charitable reach of Ties That Make A Difference, we are delivering representation and hope to classrooms and communities across the United States and around the world.

Our Commitment to Giving Back

As part of this collaboration, Our Children Read has made a firm commitment to supporting the mission of Ties That Make A Difference and the communities we serve:

- 10% Donor Discount: Our Children Read will reduce the cost of books for donors by 10%, when they purchase books to be donated through this campaign.
- 10% Contribution to the Nonprofit: Our Children Read will donate 10% of the gross sales, from The Literacy With Love Campaign purchases, directly to Ties That Make A Difference, Inc.

These efforts not only expand our reach but also teach children the importance of social responsibility, financial literacy, and giving back — helping them see that success and generosity can go hand in hand.

How the Campaign Works

1. Identifying Schools in Need
   We partner with schools and community programs — both locally and internationally — that want culturally representative books but lack the funding to purchase them.
   
   2. Connecting Donors With Purpose
   Individuals, corporations, and organizations can sponsor book shipments to these schools through Ties That Make A Difference.
   - All contributions are 100% tax-deductible.
   - Donors receive a certificate of appreciation and an impact report showing where their sponsored books went.
   - Business donors can even travel to visit the schools they sponsor, representing their companies while turning their giving into a meaningful, tax-deductible experience.
   
   3. Delivering Representation and Hope
   The books distributed through this campaign are distributed by Our Children Read, LLC — stories that empower children of color to see themselves as heroes, dreamers, and leaders.
   
   4. Creating Global Impact
   Every delivery connects children, classrooms, and communities across borders — from Atlanta to Accra, from Boston to Belize, from New York to Nigeria. Each shipment carries not only books, but love, pride, and possibility.

Empowering Young Authors and Entrepreneurs

Through Ties That Make A Difference, we don’t just give children books — we teach them how to create and contribute.

Our Write to Give Back Program helps low-income youth who have written or want to write books of their own. We provide mentorship in:
- Writing and publishing
- Marketing and sales
- Business and financial literacy

Their books can be included in our campaigns, and each young author donates 10–20% of their proceeds to a charity they care about — keeping the rest as income while learning valuable business and life skills.

This program helps children see that they can make money and make a difference at the same time.
